Nah'Zia's Law

What Is Nah’Zia’s Law?

Nah’Zia’s Law is a proposed piece of legislation created in honor of my daughter, Nah’Zia Cook, who was only ten years old when bullying stole her life from us. Her story is not an isolated tragedy—it reflects a growing crisis affecting children across South Carolina and the entire country.

Nah’Zia’s Law is designed to protect children, hold schools accountable, and ensure parents are fully informed when bullying happens. It aims to close the dangerous gaps in communication, documentation, and responsibility that currently leave too many children unprotected.

The Purpose of Nah’Zia’s Law

Nah’Zia’s Law seeks to:

1. Require Prompt Notification to Parents

Schools must immediately notify a parent or guardian the same day an incident of bullying, harassment, or intimidation is reported.

2. Improve Documentation & Reporting

Schools must properly document every reported bullying incident and create a clear record of steps taken to investigate and respond.

3. Ensure Consistent Consequences

Bullying cannot be brushed off or ignored. Nah’Zia’s Law encourages schools to follow consistent, enforceable consequences—no selective discipline, no favoritism, no excuses.

4. Involve Parents of the Bully

Parents of the student who is bullying must be notified and required to take part in corrective actions. Accountability matters—on all sides.

5. Provide Support for the Child Being Harmed

Students who report bullying should receive emotional, mental-health, and safety support—not punishment, dismissal, or blame.

6. Create Safer School Environments

The goal is not to punish children but to stop the cycle of harm, protect victims, and address bullying before it becomes deadly.

Why Nah’Zia’s Law Matters

Nah’Zia’s Law is not just about one child—it is about all of our children.

Kids like:

  • Brayden Hatchell
  • Julian Brockert
  • Raniya Wright
  • Toni Rivers

Children who should still be here today.

South Carolina has lost too many young lives to bullying. Families continue reaching out to me with their stories—stories of pain, silence, and systems that failed to protect their babies. Nah’Zia’s Law stands for them, too.

Our Vision

Nah’Zia’s Law aims to empower a culture of kindness and protection, where every child feels safe at school and every parent feels informed. This law pushes schools to take bullying seriously and ensures no child’s suffering goes unnoticed or dismissed.

We cannot bring Nah’Zia back, but we can fight to make sure no other family has to experience this heartbreak.
